Litigation Attorney (Chapel Hill, NC)

The Southern Environmental Law Center is seeking an attorney with 6+ years of experience for its Carolinas Office in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of an organization that is successfully addressing some of the most important and challenging environmental issues in the Southeast and the nation

About SELC and the Carolinas Office:

With offices across the region (core offices in Atlanta, GA; Chapel Hill, NC; and Charlottesville, VA; and satellite offices in Asheville, NC; Charleston, SC; and Washington, DC), SELC is the only organization using law and policy expertise exclusively to protect the South's natural resources—its land, air, water, coast and wetlands—and to preserve our rural countryside and community character.
Our approach is unique—and successful. We work in Congress and state legislatures to inform environmental law; in regulatory agencies to implement environmental laws and policies; and in the courts to stop the worst abuses of southern resources and set precedents to ensure their lasting protection. SELC works collaboratively with over 100 national, state, and local groups to enhance their efficacy and achieve our common conservation goals. Our legal and policy staff comprises some of the nation's leading experts in their respective fields, and SELC is recognized as one of the most effective environmental organizations in the country. We currently have a staff of 70, including 33 attorneys. The Carolinas Office currently has 24 employees, including 16 attorneys. Additional information regarding our staff is available here.

About the Position:

The litigation attorney will have significant responsibility for a portion of SELC's work in North and South Carolina, including advocacy in state and federal court and regulatory agencies. SELC offers a nationally competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.

Qualifications and Salary:

The successful candidate will be a multi-faceted lawyer with 6+ years of litigation experience; excellent academic credentials; strong legal and communication skills; and a deep personal commitment to environmental protection. Environmental litigation experience is preferred.
