Opposition to ODEC plant spreads near and far
In addition to SELC and the members of the Wise Energy for Virginia Coalition, numerous other groups have gotten involved in the effort to halt this propoasl to build what would be the largest single coal-fired power plant in the state, and one of the largest in the country:
National Parks and Conservation Association - NPCA is concerned about the impacts of pollution from the plant on cultural and historic sites like Jamestown and Williamsburg, as well as the overall environmental impact. Watch their 4-minute video for an excellent overview.
Chesapeake Bay Foundation - CBF issued a report in 2009 showing the plant would add significant and illegal amounts of mercury and nitrogen to the ailing bay.
Coalition to Keep Surry Clean - This local citizens group is on the front lines of fighting ODEC's plans to put a massive coal plant in the small town of Dendron, in Surry County.
Virginia Conservation Network - VCN is a statewide coalition of organizations that helps keep Virginians up to date on the campaign.
Natural Resources Defense Council - NRDC works to reveal the true cost of burning coal - economic, environmental and health.
