Coastal Protection

By steering development away from beaches and wetlands, SELC helps reduce potential impacts of global warming. We have launched a comprehensive conservation initiative that is shielding coastal ecosystems from rampant growth and the failure of state and federal regulators to enforce environmental safeguards. This work is also an essential component of our global warming initiative: by keeping beaches and wetlands free of new roads, condos, and other construction, we decrease the damage likely to occur with rising seas and storm activity associated with global climate change. We also are providing a natural fallback zone where coastal wildlife can adapt to changing conditions.
