Transportation & Highways

By reforming asphalt-centered transportation policies, SELC is curbing our fastest-growing source of heat-trapping CO2. The South has long been wedded to roads-only transportation, but we see huge opportunities for advancing alternatives that will reduce our dependence on driving and scale back our carbon footprint. With major transportation legislation moving through Congress, and with state governments grappling with issues such as congestion, volatile fuel prices, funding shortfalls, and climate concerns, SELC has launched a policy initiative aimed at restructuring how we spend transportation dollars. By steering these resources toward “fix-it-first” maintenance projects and a balanced mix of mobility options, we will decrease vehicle miles traveled and global warming emissions.
