Snow Geese Wintering in Eastern North Carolina

Every winter, visitors to Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge can witness an incredible wildlife spectacle: 80,000 snow geese resting and feeding on the refuge’s lakes and agricultural fields. SELC and others prevented the Navy from building a jet landing field next door to the refuge, a project that would have posed a serious threat to birds and pilots and forever altered the character of the surrounding farming community.
