Recent study confirms that the Clean Power Plan benefits Virginia:
According to a recently released study by PJM, the operator of the largest electricity market in the world, Virginia’s wholesale energy prices with the Clean Power Plan will initially be lower in 2020 than without it. PJM’s study charts the benefits of expanding renewable resources and energy efficiency.
PJM’s report aligns with an analysis by SELC, which found that meeting the goals in the Clean Power Plan would lower household electric bills in Virginia by up to 8%, reduce costs for utility customers in nearly all years through 2030, and provide over half a billion dollars in carbon reduction benefits.
In response to these findings, the former chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission wrote in the Washington Post that using clean energy and energy efficiency to meet the goals of the Clean Power Plan is a “once-in-a-generation opportunity to make the economy more efficient, create jobs and cut people’s energy bills.”
