SELC supports county’s rejection of Mark Clark Extension

Along with the Coastal Conservation League, SELC submitted a letter to Charleston County requesting that it uphold the decision to reject the I-526 extension project and demonstrating that the threats of negative financial consequences for the county are just that. The eruption of previous concerns used to re-open the debate in 2011—that the county’s rejection of the extension would constitute a default of agreement or affect its AAA bond rating—prompted the letter. Additionally, we assured the county that the South Carolina Department of Transportation, not the county, will be responsible for any money already spent on the project.
