President signs executive order designed to strip away protections

Today, President Donald Trump signed an executive order requiring the removal of two federal regulations for every new regulation adopted. Nat Mund, SELC’s Legislative Director, responds below.

“This executive order requiring repeal of two regulations for every new regulation adopted is governing by gimmick. The Environmental Protection Agency is considering a new regulation to reduce exposure to lead in drinking water. Does EPA repeal protections for two other toxic chemicals in drinking water in order to protect the public from lead in drinking water? An executive order that strips away environmental safeguards by counting regulations, instead of considering substance, shows a general disregard for the health of citizens and the environment.”
