50 resolutions passed to protect our coast from offshore drilling
With a vote this week in Pawley’s Island, the list of towns and cities advocating to keep offshore drilling and seismic testing off the Southeastern coast reached 50.
This new video clip illustrates just how widespread the opposition has grown.
A recent story in the Huffington Post gives an overview of the many municipalities, businesses and environmental groups advancing this cause. In the article, Senior Attorney Sierra Weaver talks about the ever-growing numbers of those taking a stand against offshore drilling, noting that in many areas the opposition has been bipartisan. Just last week, a group of 300 coastal business owners sent a letter to the president urging him to table drilling plans.
“It’s been a slow process of the communities waking up and saying, ‘This isn’t our vision for the coast,'” said Weaver. “These are communities that know that their way of life and their economies and livelihoods depend on a clean coast.”
