Bipartisan partnership promotes offshore wind in the Mid-Atlantic

This week North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan have announced a coalition committing to work together to bring offshore wind to their coasts. Called the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Regional Transformative Partnership for Offshore Wind Energy Resources, or SMART-POWER, it will tap into a new clean energy source. North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland have some of the best wind power sites in the nation, but lag behind their Northern neighbors in developing this clean, carbon-free energy resource.

“We’re excited this bipartisan partnership will help the governors deliver the benefits of clean energy to their states,” said Senior Attorney Gudrun Thompson. “Developing the Southeast’s offshore wind power will make progress toward carbon-reduction goals and spur economic development.”
