Dominion Virginia Power Wins Offshore Wind Bid

Dominion Virginia Power, the state’s largest energy provider, won a September 2013 federal lease auction to develop wind energy on 113,000 acres 23 nautical miles off the Virginia coast. Unfortunately, Dominion’s latest long-range energy generation plan, calls for developing less than one percent of the wind energy in the area over the next decade, in the form of two “test turbines.” In response to Dominion’s plan, which is required by state law, SELC is urging the utility to move quickly to tap this emission-free power source.
