Draft Study on Surface Coal Mining in the Cumberland Plateau Still Pending

The Office of Surface Mining has yet to release a draft environmental study regarding the state of Tennessee’s request to declare state-owned lands on the northern Cumberland Plateau off limits to surface coal mining. The state’s petition, which SELC and partners intervened in support of, has been pending for three years with no sign of the draft study.
