Duke Energy Announces Coal Ash Spill into NC’s Dan River
Duke Energy announced today that there has been a coal ash spill at its Dan River Steam Station in North Carolina. At this point we know that Duke Energy is estimating that 50,000-82,000 tons of coal ash have been discharged into the Dan River, in addition to over 24 million gallons of polluted basin water. Duke reports that there has been periodic mitigation but the spill is ongoing.
