SELC steps in to protect Aetna Mountain, Tennessee

In a separate matter affecting Aetna Mountain, which forms the southern rim of the Tennessee River Gorge near Chattanooga, off-road vehicle users have transformed the Tennessee Valley Authority’s power line right-of-ways into a network of deeply eroded four-wheeling trails. As a result, formerly clear streams in the area have become muddy sluices that wash large quantities of sediment into the river below. SELC is looking at ways to bring the erosion under control to protect wildlife and water quality.
