Election update: A message from our executive director

Executive Director DJ Gerken

With the Trump administration heading back to the White House, we stand at a crossroads for our environment. And here at the Southern Environmental Law Center, we’re ready.

The first Trump administration did everything in its power to dismantle our bedrock environmental laws. This time around, candidate Trump made clear his intention to relaunch a full-blown attack on the environment — and we’re prepared to roll up our sleeves to fight back — in the courtroom, in the halls of government, and in our communities.

Together, we can stop the Trump administration from putting the health of our communities at risk, reversing climate action, and damaging the wildlife and wild places that make the South unique. Will you join us by supporting this critical work?

We’re ready. Be part of the fight ahead.

The challenges ahead are significant, but not entirely new. With nearly four decades of experience, we’re prepared to stand with our partners and the people across the South to protect our clean air, clean water, and healthy climate we all depend on.

We defended our southern environment and bedrock environmental laws during the first Trump administration by being nimble and using every tool at our disposal — litigating in state and federal courts, advocating for environmental policies at every level of government, and helping to mobilize and prepare our grassroots partners to hold the administration accountable.

With your support, we’ve achieved significant environmental progress at both the state and federal levels. Now, we’re ready to not only protect those gains but to push forward. Together, we’ll champion ambitious climate action, fight back in the courts to uphold essential environmental safeguards, and work hand-in-hand with Southern communities to secure clean air and water for everyone.

We’ve been here before. We know the path forward. And we’re ready to take on the challenges ahead, but we can’t do it without you. Please consider donating to support SELC and this critical work.
