Virginia State Water Control Board Stands up for Water

The Virginia State Water Board yesterday used its authority to demand more information as to whether the approvals granted for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline and Mountain Valley Pipeline projects under Nationwide Permit 12 are adequate to protect Virginia waterways. The board has approved a 30-day period to solicit comments on the issue.

“This was the right decision by the State Water Control Board, and its clear that developers should not be allowed to proceed with construction until the Board can determine whether Nationwide Permit 12 can protect Virginia’s rivers, streams, and wetlands,” said Southern Environmental Law Center Senior Attorney Greg Buppert. “We thank the Board for the opportunity to provide more technical information on this important issue.”
