Virginia’s State Corporation Commission approves offshore wind settlement

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va — Last week the State Corporation Commission approved a settlement, accepting a replacement for the performance standard that was part of the its final order approving Dominion Energy’s application for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project.

The performance standard is now replaced with five elements addressing construction and carrying cost sharing and operating performance provisions, among other things.

In response, SELC Senior Attorney Will Cleveland, who represented Appalachian Voices, issued the following statement:

“We’re very happy the SCC has endorsed the settlement. It will enable the project to proceed with real ratepayer protections. It’s critical as Virginia proceeds on its clean energy transition to be mindful of costs and protect ratepayers. We will continue to monitor the project’s progress and ensure that Virginia residents are not cost burdened.”
