Please join us as we celebrate our 2022 winners.

The Southern Environmental Law Center will hold an award ceremony for the 2022 Reed Award winners on March 18 at 4 p.m. as part of Virginia Festival of the Book.  Michael Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Pennsylvania State University, and author of The New Climate War, will be this year’s featured speaker.

Catherine Coleman Flowers won the Reed Award in the book category for Waste: One Woman’s Fight Against America’s Dirty Secret. Alexis Okeowo won the Reed Award in the journalism category  for “The Heavy Toll of the Black Belt’s Wastewater Crisis,” published by The New Yorker. The award ceremony will include readings and remarks from the winners.

The first 100 event registrants receive a free copy of Waste by Catherine Coleman Flowers.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at the CODE Building, located at 225 West Water Street on the downtown mall in Charlottesville, Virginia. Please see the venue’s COVID-19 precautions.

Those unable to attend in person can broadcast the award ceremony online through a link provided ahead of the event.
