Allie Swanson
Legislative Assistant/Office Administrator
Allie oversees the daily operations of the SELC office in the nation’s capital. She coordinates guests and office calendars, answers phones and mail, manages supplies, plans events, and more. She provides legislative support to the Federal Affairs Team by covering Congressional calendars and hearings. She circulates regional and federal environmental news daily, and handles office accounting, including budget and expense reporting. Allie also supports projects led by the Office Director and Assistant Director of Administration.
“I’m motivated by SELC’s regional approach to national, even global issues,” said Allie, a native Southerner from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina who attended high school in Raleigh, North Carolina. “The South has a lot to offer in terms of environmental protection, and I’m glad SELC is a representation of that idea and leader of it. It’s motivating to work with such passionate and intelligent people.”
An alumna of Rhodes College in Memphis, Allie appreciates SELC’s successful opposition of the Byhalia Pipeline there. “It’s really special to see SELC represent community groups,” she said. “After studying the history of environmental justice in Memphis while in school there, I found it inspiring to see such powerful community action.”
Allie’s favorite place in the SELC region is Bald Head Island along the North Carolina coast. She and her family have vacationed there every summer of her life.
