Lauren J. Bowen
Senior Attorney and Leader of SELC's Solar Power Initiative
In the six states served by SELC, only 1,000 megawatts of solar power were installed or committed to be installed when Lauren began working on solar power in 2014. That number is now over 23,000 megawatts, enough to sustain approximately 2.7 million homes, and it’s still growing.
I’m proud to be part of a wide-reaching team within SELC and among our partners that’s accelerating the transition from fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy and making the South a leader in solar power,Lauren J. Bowden
As leader of the Solar Power Initiative, Lauren oversees the solar work across all SELC offices and coordinates our local, regional, and national advocacy across all three branches of government. She works closely with other SELC energy and solar attorneys, administrative staff, communications team, and development officers.
Lauren’s passion and path is homegrown. She was born in South Carolina, grew up in North Carolina, received her undergraduate and law degrees from the state’s flagship university and, after two years with SELC as an associate attorney in Atlanta, she moved back to Chapel Hill. Growing up, she and her family explored the mountains and beaches of North Carolina, and now she carries on that tradition with her children.
“The South is my home and many of my loved ones are here,” she said. “I grew up exploring the natural and beautiful places in our region. I care about the people who live here. They are directly impacted by the work we do fighting for clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment for all.”
