Supreme Court Decision Cements the Roadless Area Rule

SELC is applauding the U.S. Supreme Court’s move to let stand an appellate court decision that upheld the Roadless Area Conservation Rule. SELC played a key role in garnering support for the rule, and for the past 14 years we have successfully defended the Southeast’s roadless areas from commercial logging, destructive road projects, and harmful resource extraction. We are extremely proud that, under SELC’s watch, not a single acre has been lost.

Continuing our work in the trenches, SELC is currently urging the U.S. Forest Service to fully protect the 242,000 acres of officially designated roadless areas in Virginia’s George Washington National Forest and to maintain the roadless status of an additional 144,000 roadless acres identified in the revision of the long-term management plan for the almost 1.1-million-acre forest.
