Clean Energy and Jobs Are in the Wind

The U.S. Atlantic coast offers some of the best offshore wind resources in the world. If we could harness 52,000 megawatts of this power, just a fraction of the raw energy that’s out there, it could fuel 14 million U.S. homes while creating more than $200 billion in new economic activity. This is just one of the findings in a National Wildlife Federation report cosponsored by SELC and other conservation groups that looks at the wind energy potential off the Atlantic Seaboard, including Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia.

To tap this non-polluting, locally produced energy source, Congress must assure wind developers and utilities that the country is committed to clean energy for the long term. Our states must also do their part by, among other things, requiring power companies to meet a significant portion of electricity demand with clean and renewable energy resources.
