Victory in Virginia’s Jefferson National Forest

Responding to an administrative appeal filed by SELC and its partners, the U.S. Forest Service has agreed to changes in a logging plan that will spare approximately 140 acres of forest lands and avoid permanent road construction in a remote and largely unspoiled area in the heart of Virginia’s coal country. The agency will also keep loggers away from steep, erosion-prone slopes on the tract, which is near the popular Keokee Lake Recreation Area in the Jefferson National Forest.
