SELC challenges state water permit for Monroe bypass

On behalf of the N.C. Wildlife Federation and Yadkin Riverkeeper, SELC has filed a challenge of a water quality permit issued by the state for the proposed Monroe bypass. The permit fails to fully assess water quality impacts from the highway, and does not authorize construction. Instead, the permit appers to have been issued in order to allow the N.C. Turnpike Authority to issue bonds – another example of the agency trying to bulldoze environmental safeguards in order to build this unnecessary highway.
