SELC seeks immediate halt to Monroe Bypass

SELC filed a motion late yesterday for preliminary injunction in federal court seeking a halt on any further work on the proposed Monroe Bypass. With the NC Department of Transportation and other proponents saying construction could start as soon as December, an injunction is necessary to prevent the project from advancing any further, potentially rendering a full, objective analysis moot.

The motion was filed on behalf of our partners on the project – North Carolina Wildlife Federation, Clean Air Carolina, and Yadkin Riverkeeper.  Earlier this month, we filed suit against NCDOT for proceeding with the project based on its grossly inaccurate and inadequate environmental analysis. The motion today seeks an immediate halt on further work while the court hears arguments in the lawsuit.
