Development Data Analyst 

The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) has a new position for a Development Data Analyst to join its fundraising team. Reporting to the Director of Development Operations, this newly created position will provide data analysis and reporting tools vital to guide effective donor-centric and data-driven decision making in support of fundraising and marketing priorities for SELC.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Development Operations team members are primarily located in our Charlottesville, VA office. The preferred locations for this position are Charlottesville, VA; Atlanta, GA; Chapel Hill, NC; and Washington, DC; although other SELC offices can be considered. SELC currently has a hybrid work model that offers employees the flexibility to work at home up to two days a week. All employees must reside in our region. SELC will provide relocation reimbursement for those relocating for an SELC position. 

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Collect and organize data, conduct analysis, and present findings in support of SELC’s fundraising and marketing goals and objectives. 
  • Apply strategic business intelligence, data visualization, and data modeling to guide prospect identification, segmentation, and acquisition, and to provide insight into marketing practices, marketing KPIs, and marketing analytics. 
  • Produce and maintain reports and dashboards to monitor fundraising performance and prospect analysis. Reports will track funds raised against goals, illustrate significant trends, and inform revenue projection adjustments.  
  • Provide standardized metrics and analysis techniques for evaluating development officer portfolios individually and in aggregate.  
  • Provide insights that will help guide our attribution methodology and enhance our understanding of donor lifetime value. 
  • Maintain and mine actionable knowledge from databases for strategic audience segment growth. 
  • Analyze supporter journeys to better understand point of acquisition and engagement with SELC touchpoints, and make recommendations for improving journeys based on this data.  
  • Track and analyze acquisition information for source, time to first gift, etc.  
  • Provide in-depth analysis of direct mail and email solicitations to support and develop strategy.  
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (Pardot) list segmentation for emails.  
  • Track industry fundraising and marketing trends, benchmarking our performance against those trends. 
  • Provide ongoing analysis of prospect scoring in relation to marketing goals.  

Required Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • 3+ years of experience in a data analysis role. 
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools. 
  • Expertise translating requests into meaningful deliverables, including visualizations that are both impactful and visually appealing. 
  • Project management skills. You bring demonstrated success in setting priorities, coordinating multiple projects, and working effectively under pressure. 
  • Highly organized. You are self-driven and have excellent time management skills. You feel confident shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment, including managing several efforts at once. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a focus on delivering high-quality work. 
  • Collaborative. Proven ability to work with a wide range of individual styles.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with Salesforce NPSP, Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (Pardot), Excel, Tableau, and/or similar data visualization tools 
  • Experience in non-profit fundraising. 
  • Knowledge of prospect research principles, practices, and tools of the trade.

Compensation & Benefits:  

SELC offers salaries competitive with other leading environmental nonprofits nationally and provides an excellent benefits package. The starting salary range for this position is $70,000- $85,000, commensurate with experience and flexible for more experienced applicants with higher compensation targets. SELC is a PSLF (Public Service Loan Forgiveness) eligible employer.   

SELC will also provide relocation reimbursement for those relocating for an SELC position, up to a specific dollar amount and contingent on the move being at least 50 miles from the current primary address.
