SELC Applauds Brenda Mallory’s Confirmation as Chair of White House Council on Environmental Quality

WASHINGTON — Brenda Mallory, Director of Regulatory Policy for the Southern Environmental Law Center, has been confirmed by the United States Senate to lead the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). As Chair of CEQ she will be a principal environmental policy advisor to President Biden and charged with coordinating environmental policy across the federal government.

In response to Mallory’s confirmation, SELC Executive Director Jeff Gleason released the following statement:

“President Biden could not have chosen a better or more qualified person to head the White House Council on Environmental Policy and lead the urgent work ahead tackling climate change, advancing environmental justice, and restoring protections that we have long depended on. Brenda has unparalleled expertise and commitment to lead CEQ and we are confident her leadership will help position the country for a better environmental future.”

Mallory, who has more than 35 years of experience in environmental law and policy, previously served as General Counsel of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and held multiple leadership positions during her 14-year career at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. After serving as Executive Director for the Conservation Litigation Project, she joined SELC to lead its regulatory policy work at the federal and state levels.
