Georgia Power to retire 10 outdated coal plants

SELC is applauding Georgia Power’s decision to retire 10 old and uneconomic coal-fired plants by mid-2016. The utility now must go before the Georgia Public Service Commission for approval to decertify these units and we will actively participate in this proceeding, just as we advocated the retirement of many of these units in a 2011 case before the Commission. If approved, the retirements will result in a reduction of more than 1,800 megawatts of coal-fueled generation.
