Take Action to Support a Safe, Reliable Transportation Option for Hatteras Island

Sign our petition urging the NCDOT and FHWA to reconsider a safe, reliable long-term transportation option to Hatteras Island.

Transportation agencies currently plan to build their so-called “Phase I” bridge alongside the current bridge and continue to rely on the frequently overwashed and washed out NC 12 for access. Now, they are proposing to attempt to maintain access to it by building the first of several “Phase II” bridges that will eventually be located in the ocean as Hatteras Island erodes westward. That plan is doomed to fail, and it could destroy the refuge in the process.
