Watch Readings from 2020 Reed Writing Award Winners

This year’s winners of the Reed Environmental Writing Award are author Margaret Renkl and journalist Megan Mayhew Bergman. Renkl was recognized for her memoir Late Migrations: A History of Love and Loss. The series Mayhew Bergman penned for The Guardian exploring Southern attitudes toward climate change won in the journalism category. You can learn more about this year’s winners here.

Normally SELC honors the winners at a reading held as part of the Virginia Festival of the Book each March. 2020 saw the first-ever cancellation of the festival in light of the coronavirus, so the annual Reed Award reading was cancelled as well.

As a small consolation, both writers have recorded readings from their winning works, shared here. Hear from Mayhew Bergman above. Click here to watch a recording of Renkl reading from her memoir, Late Migrations.

We hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
