SELC applauds North Atlantic right whale and offshore wind strategy

WASHINGTON — Today, NOAA Fisheries and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) released their joint strategy “to protect and promote the recovery of North Atlantic right whales while responsibly developing offshore wind energy.” 

In response, Sierra Weaver, senior attorney and leader of SELC’s Coast and Wetlands program, released the following statement: 

“We applaud NOAA and BOEM for recognizing the urgency of the moment for both the future of the right whale and addressing climate change. This joint strategy better defines the path for the industry to responsibly move forward and creates a common understanding about the issues and possible solutions. We look forward to working with the agencies and offshore wind industry to implement and continue to build this strategy.”
