Southern Environmental Law Center Receives Top Charity Rating for Seventh Consecutive Year

Charlottesville, VA—For the seventh year in a row, the Southern Environmental Law Center has earned a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, the leading evaluator of U.S. charities. Only two percent of the nonprofits tracked by Charity Navigator have received its top rating for seven consecutive years, indicating that SELC outperforms most other charities in America.

“We are very proud to receive such consistently high marks from an organization that so many people rely on for guidance in where to invest their philanthropy,” said Marie Hawthorne, SELC’s director of development and marketing. “Getting Charity Navigator’s Exceptional rating year after year confirms for SELC’s donors that they are making the wisest choice.”

Charity Navigator uses a data-driven analysis to evaluate groups that depend on charitable support. SELC’s seven straight years of four-star evaluations show that this organization adheres to good governance and meets high standards for fiscal management, accountability, and transparency.

Headquartered in Charlottesville, the Southern Environmental Law Center is a regional nonprofit that uses the power of the law to protect the environment of the Southeast (Virginia, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama). Founded in 1986, SELC's team of nearly 60 law and policy experts are playing a central role in every major environmental issue facing our region, from helping to lead the South toward a clean energy future, to promoting transportation reform and livable communities, to protecting our natural treasures from the mountains to the coast.  SELC does not charge fees for its services, relying instead on charitable contributions from individuals, families, and foundations.  https://www.southernenvironment.org
